Is Vitamin C Really Healthy?
Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that is necessary for normal growth and development. Water-soluble vitamins dissolve in water. Unused amounts of the vitamin leave the body through the urine. That means you need a continuous supply of this vitamin in your diet....
The body does not manufacture vitamin C on its own, nor is it stored within the body. It is therefore important to include plenty of vitamin C-containing foods in your daily diet.
Growth And Repair
This vitamin is required for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of your body. It is necessary to form collagen, an important protein and used to make skin, scar tissue, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels. Vitamin C is essential for the healing of wounds-a natural remedy for skin healing, and for the repair and maintenance of cartilage, bones, and teeth.
Vitamin C helps prevent the build up of free radicals, which are mostly responsible for the aging process and can contribute to the development of various health conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and a host of inflammatory conditions like arthritis.
Vitamin C As An Antioxidant
Antioxidants also help reduce the damage to the body caused by toxic chemicals and pollutants such as cigarette smoke. Science has shown that the human body is gifted with several antioxidant protective functions to prevent or reduce the damage from free radicals. Vitamin C happens to be one of the most important of these biochemically protective molecules.
This was one of the reasons why scientists like Proffessor Linus Pauling, Nobel Laureate and one of the most influential chemists of the 20th century, recommended large doses of Vitamin C in the diet for prevention of the common cold and boosting the overall immune system of the human body.
My Personal Experience
"I have, personally, experienced the power of vitamin C. Whenever I get the common cold, I take large doses of vitamin C, up to 20 grams a day, and my symptoms are greatly reduced!
I ususally take enough vitamin C to the point of just prior to getting diarrhea, and that is where I stay until the cold subsides. I take the vitamin C hourly, while I am awake. Ususally, within three days, I am feeling much better!"-Terry Beckham-site owner
